The Three main parts of a website

May 2nd, 2010 by

Web Design is a broad term and is the slightly shortened meaning of website design. There are three main areas that make up web design which are:

  • Graphic design for website (images & Pictures)
  • Coding to make it all work (behind the pictures & images)
  • Content writing & SEO (The text content & titles)

You need to get all three elements of the web design done so you end up investing in an effective website for your business and Organisation. As a web designer it frustrates me when I come across a small business owner who had a real novice and poor website designed and after they get no benefits from their website they think the internet offers no opportunities to their business!

The fact of the matter is you need a nice professional looking website that will attract the right customers. It must be easy to use and navigate so it works well so they don’t get put off your website and go to another. When you have achieved this your content must make it easy for potential customers to act i.e. buy your products or call and inquire.

Never forget that even though you have a great web design & the best product if no one can find your website you will never have any visitors. So always keep your focus simple – I want customers buying my products online, or I want local home owners to find my service when they need it. The you need market, advertise and make sure your website is search engine friendly.

Your web design is your business window on the internet as a web designer it is my job to construct your online presence with an effective website. Always research your online partner carefully, don’t get over charged for a poor website.

Most recent example of how we changed a local Cheltenham business owners perception:

A Local Company based in Cheltenham had spent over £1000 with a so called web design Company, the website was only ever half completed and never provided any positive impact to this local Cheltenham business. So they carried on without a website thinking it was all just a waste of time, and who do you trust that does not charge a small fortune!

We made contact with this Cheltenham firm and discussed web design, how important it should be and although they got stung they still need an effective website. We agreed to start with a basic 3 page web design, as they got confidence in us they could build it up and see what it can do for their business -

One year later and they are top of Google for their local keywords in Cheltenham, they have grown the web design to over a 8 page website and have generated over ten times the cost of the website in profit!!!

So if we can help please do not hesitate to get In touch with us click here for our web design options

How effective can a cheap web design be?

May 2nd, 2010 by

I would like to discuss the topic of how effective a cheap website can be, how can a static website that is really affordable be effective for my business?

Nothing in life is free and this is extremely true in the web design World, anyone who is much cheaper than everyone else must have a reason unless they are so rich it is a hobby, if you find a someone like that please let me know! We do believe however and prove time and time again an affordable web design can produce amazing results!

Not all cheap website are good….

A good example of this is where a tradesmen feels it is time to get a website, like a fencer or roofer,  they do not have a large budget to spend on marketing & advertising but are tempted by yellow pages, an absolute con of a web page in my opinion. Yellow Pages charge in the region of £600+ for a very poor website (if you can call it that) with only a few pages. Do NOT waste your money would be my advice.

However some even cheaper websites do very well….

I have provided small business web design from £99 (singe page) with a popular choice being £339 for 5 pages as having linked pages helps in the search engines. I incorporate a hosting and support plan which is a very small amount each month and you end with an affordable web design, a cheap website!

How have my cheap websites done?

All the cheap websites I have done have paid for themselves many times over within the first 6 months. In fact one of our clients landed a huge contract which has transformed his business and all this from a cheap website costing less than £400!!

Important facts to bear in mind

  • 6 month’s is the average time a website will climb the search engine rankings
  • Google Ad Words can provide a way to generate business quickly
  • Different types of businesses are more or less competitive online

Remember you can build up your website over time as it proves it can make you profit.

Our web design starts from £99 for a single page which is better than nothing!! However we always recommend a 5 page website as the search engines like internal links and it gives the web surfer a better experience.

I Am Thinking About A Website But…

April 10th, 2010 by

I hear this everyday when chasing down new leads and I feel that you could all benefit from seeing my answers to the Top 3 reasons for putting off a website.I

…My Last Website Was Not What I Wanted

Many clients I contact have in the past had dealings with large design companies, such as yell.com or BT. They were offered the world and received little. The designs were from template and every time they tried to input their own voices into the design process they were shut out, being told that the professionals new better. In one case the client was even told they could not have the domain they had already bought, but instead one of the companies choosing!
We often hear things like this and I would like to assuage the doubts of all who read this… This will never happen with AS Design. We include our clients at every stage, from the web address right up to colour scheme and content. We firmly believe that your website is just that, Yours. You have the final say at every stage in the design process.

…I Don’t See How A Site Can Benefit Me

I am always surprised when I hear this. There are many different ways to promote yourself using the internet, from the obvious website to Social Media Optimisation. In the past the use of the internet has always been an important step in helping your business grow and develop good leads. But now that Generation Y, the first generation to grow up using computers and the internet, are coming of age (the eldest of the generation are 25) they increasingly use the internet for everything. I should know, I am one of them! As time progresses a bigger and bigger sector of your potential customer base is looking to the internet to gather information on business when they are seeking business and services. If you do not embrace the internet, you will increasingly be missing out on a massive amount of business! We specialise in Social Media Optimization at AS Design, which is a great way of reaching younger potential clients, by embracing web applications such as Twitter and Blog services such as WordPress. If you are reading this, you are engaging with our Social Media right now! Contact us today to discuss how we can help you take you business to the next level.

…I Don’t Need A Website, I Am In The Yellow Pages/Thompson Local

Do this I always say, ‘Do you know that over 80% of customers now search for the services by using Google or another such Search Engine?’ They can be very surprised at that, some flat out refuse to believe me! I simply tell them that the reducing size of the Yellow Book is testament to the fact that it is becoming an antique. In the modern information age, you need to embrace the internet to survive in a competitive market. Dollars to Doughnuts, if your competitor is on the net, 9 times out of 10 they will get the business and you will lose out!
That said, the world of web search is very competitive. At AS Design, we can help you reach the first page of Google rankings, and in some cases our clients have reached the coveted number one spot. Try searching for “Builder Winchcombe” in Google. The number one spot is one of our clients and his site is not even completed yet!

Well I hope that this post has answered a few questions for those of you out there who are still debating on if they should get a site, please do not hesitate to contact us at AS Design with any Queries!

Why Tradesmen need a Website

March 26th, 2010 by

Introduction

Tradesmen need a website to for new custom as nearly 86% of locally sourced services are done on the internet. As the Internet has evolved from being restricted to specific trade groups like IT and hospitality, people from every trade are setting up their own websites to increase their business prospects, without an effective website you will fall behind your competition. Websites that are east-to-navigate highlighting the features and services that can be provided by professionals from their respective trades is a necessity in today’s world. Besides providing enough information about the products, available services and benefits that a customer can get, everything can be incorporated into a website.

Advantages that tradesmen get

The best advantage that any tradesmen, including plumbers, roofers, electricians, fencers, double glazing, property maintenance, builders, heating engineers and others can get is that the business could be projected to a larger volume of customers erasing geographical barriers. Also, this sort of advertisement can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all through the year. When work cannot get the recognition it deserves through traditional methods, it becomes absolutely necessary to market craftsmanship through innovative methodologies. Another benefit tradesmen can get is that they can increase their network of operation. This promotes mutual dependence among plumbers and equal sharing of contracts while sticking to the deadlines.

What a difference website makes

Proper workflow management has been a major concern of late because of high volumes of work. By having a website, tradesmen can project about their services and what the areas they want to concentrate on, normally highly profitably areas. Additional issues could be answered effectively like how a customer can benefit by employing the services being provided by a specific tradesman. Details such as nearness to the locality of the person requesting services can be found instantly. In case of any discounts that are offered can be immediately made known through the Internet as it is the right channel on which everyone depends for seeking information.

Features of a website for tradesmen

A plumber can prepare an online brochure that attracts people to get access to his services whenever there is any suitable necessity. Similarly, roofers and builders will have to project their services so that can receive new orders and increase their workflow. A website is not just for the purpose of letting others know about their mere existence but also to serve customers well by improving their services. The concept of marketing can be realised in the best way by opting for the creation of a website. Having a website automatically qualifies the certification in most of the cases. Moreover, recognition and fame can be achieved for the work done through testimonials.

Key benefits of a website for a tradesman & Company:

  • Generate Business (higher than Yellow Pages)
  • Compete online
  • Showcase your Work
  • Provides extra information to clients
  • Easier for customers to give referrals
  • Add credibility
  • Add web link to all other forms of advertising

We have done many web designs for tradesmen and all have been successful at gaining quality leads, this all within 6 months of the website going live!

We can work with tradesmen all over the UK

My Inspiration

March 23rd, 2010 by

When i think about the creative people i know, or have known we all have a need for our inspiration to be energized. A way to refresh our creative minds, purge ourselves of becoming monotonous in design to keep the flame of inspiration burning brightly for our clients and to help keep web design fresh.

My inspiration comes from the mountains, the powerful seemingly everlasting reminders of who we are with there snow covered peaks and rough uneven beauty. I get reminded quite quickly of how mother nature is a designer the likes of me can only dream of becoming, using complex design, fractals and chaos to design beauty unmatched by me and my mouse!

I hope the picture from my tour through the Alps paints my next thousand words on the topic :)

"A beautiful scene near the Mount blanc tunnel Italy side"

Mother Nature is the ultimate in design to which i strive to match but never get close :)

Can you get a much more fresh design?

Web Design

March 20th, 2010 by

The designing of a website involves the combination of individual and collective creativity, latest tools and designs that correspond to the development of a website in a client’s marketplace. In general, most of the websites are designed on the basis of the features an organisation is trying to promote. The role of a designer proves to be crucial here. It may take few hours to develop and design a website. Or, it may months together to design another website. Whatever the website requirements are, a designer should never lose creativity while trying to implement latest tools and innovative concepts for designing a website that is user friendly. Being lost too much into the code can result into a website that looks clutter and over done.

The layout of the website is important first. Taking the concept of web design to an advanced level, most of the contemporary websites are designed according to the products and services that are available. Everything matters in case of a quality website design. The quality of the colours chosen and their combinations chosen are equally important as that of the graphics included. In order to create a small design, a website designer struggles a lot, right from the placement of the image and its appearance. It would take even more time if it involves graphical presentation. Most of the files should be managed in such a way that the fluidity and usability is maintained throughout the website. This is because even slightest changes to the files will impact the appearance of images to a vast extent.

Websites are designed and developed using HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) along with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) applications. Web designers have to work in tandem with programmers who are proficient in languages such as PHP, .NET and Java. Keeping track of the database along with the coding is an uphill task. The features involved and the technology implemented will depend a lot on the amount invested in the creation of a website design. The quality of a website reflects the work of a website designer. Experienced web designers will take lesser amount of time without compromising on the quality of work.

The scope of web design is ever increasing as every organisation is in requirement of a website. In addition to this, some organisations are manipulating the existing design of a website according to the changes that have occurred such as addition of new services or removal of outdated services along with the inclusion of latest range of products. Web designs should reflect the intention of a company and the channels it deals with. This is the reason why all the factors like colours, images and graphics, play equal roles in the success or failure of a particular website.

An effective web design will provide results for the Organisation or Company if done correctly and designed to be pleasing for the type of web users and internet surfers who are interested.

At AS (web) Design we have had great pleasure in seeing our clients feel the positive benefits of our effective web designs. One client of ours glosfencing.co.uk (Acorn Fencing) in Gloucester, Gloucestershire has had a basic web design by us completed 6 months ago and has recently told us he is now struggling to cope with the workload! I think a 200m installation of security fencing came through the website which made it pay for itself many time over. This is a basic HTML website that looks good and does well in search engine (SEO) ranking locally in Gloucestershire, Gloucester & Cheltenham.

Good effective web design that works and provides results does not need to be expensive, however your business, Company or Organisation should have a website that puts you at the forefront of your competition.

We provide fresh, clean effective web design in Gloucestershire and all over the UK:
